Michael's Story

Text size

Michael Ray Swalley, 62, Brownsburg, passed away on Sept. 5, 2017. He was born August 15, 1955 to Ben and Bonnie Swalley. He graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1974 and still denies any involvement in running the mannequin up the flag pole. Although it may be hard to believe, Mike was not really a standup comedian but was an electrician by trade and was also known to deal with the occasional Jigersauw and Dicphore. He was a master at building and inventing things and was always the life of any party. There is nothing Mike would rather do than to spend the day making memories with his grandchildren. He has blessed them with the gift of thousands of good times to reflect upon. He will forever be remembered as the best and most fun Papaw/Grandpa ever and will be infamous for his Halloween parties and Haunted Barn. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harold & Hazel Swalley, Charles & Norma Purl and nephew Bryan Swalley. He is survived by his parents Ben and Bonnie Swalley, wife Marnie of 15 years, his daughter Amanda McCalment (Abram), granddaughters Eva, Violet, and (the new baby on the way Coraline), his step daughter Tiffany Sears (Dave), grandchildren, Will, Isa, Maggie, (another new baby on the way Hazel Rae), his siblings, Benita (Rick) Turner, Jack (Robin) Swalley and Ann (Jeff) Ritorto also many nieces and nephews. He was a longtime fan and season ticket holder of the Indianapolis Colts and named his Labrador Retriever after the Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne whom he also leaves behind as well as his favorite horse Jaz and his favorite chickens Rainbow Dash and Emily. Mike will be greatly missed by many and fondly remembered for his zest for life and adventure. Forever the prankster, "Pop goes the weasel" will be played at his service and rubber chickens will be handed out as keep sakes. (not really) Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wed. Sept. 13 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with memorial services at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Gathering Together, 147 N. Center St., Plainfield, IN 46168 or at www.thegatheringtogether.org Online guestbook at matthewsmortuary.com.
