James's Story

Mr. James E. Gochenour, 87, of Lebanon, passed away June 17, 2017, at IU Health West in Avon.

James was born on June 28, 1929, in Boone County, the son of the late Charles A. and Anna (Jackson) Gochenour. He married Joan Lee on February 11, 1951, in the North Salem Christian Church. She passed away on October 13, 2014.

James attended the Perry Central, Pinnell, and Advance schools and graduated from Advance High School in 1947. He then served in the United States Army Reserve. James enjoyed farming his entire life, but also was employed at Block's Warehouse, worked for the Boone County Highway Department, and delivered newspapers for the Lebanon Reporter. James was a member of Old Union Church. He was a member of Hazelrigg Lodge # 200, the Scottish Rite, and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his son Charles Gochenour, III of Lebanon; his daughers Sheila Scott of Pittsboro and Sue (Paul) Noland of North Salem; his grandchildren Greg Gochenour, Laura Gochenour, and Matthew Scott; and his great-grandchild Nathan Scott. James was preceded in death by his wife Joan Gochenour; his daughter-in-law Karen Gochenour; his son-in-law Jeffery Scott; and his sister Susan Graham.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, June 22, 2017 for visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. in the Old Union Church, 5681 S. 500 W., Jamestown, IN 46147. James will be laid to rest at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown. Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon, has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
