Dixie's Story

Text size

Dixie Rose Rowe, beloved wife of Michael Lee Rowe for 45 years, passed away June 17, 2017.
She was born in Indianapolis, IN on October 1, 1945. Dixie graduated from Warren Central High School in 1963. She started her career as a secretary at Mayflower Moving Company.
Dixie fought medical issues her entire adult life including two kidney transplants and more than 30 surgeries with unmatched strength and determination. Her life was impacted so profoundly that she started her second career in middle age when she earned her RN degree from IU School of Nursing in 1993 so that she could provide the same care that she had received. She worked at Wishard Hospital first in ICU then at St. Margaret's Breast Center. After her retirement from nursing in 2010, Dixie started a third career in quilting, which she embraced full-heartedly.
Dixie was one of a kind. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Her house was always open and she could whip up an amazing meal in a quick second. She never knew a stranger and has many life-long friends.
Dixie is survived by her husband Michael Lee Rowe; sons David Andrew Hall (Vickie) and Michael Frederick Rowe (Trisha); grandchildren Joshua Andrew Hall, Megan Katherine (Dylan) McCloud, Addison Jo Hall, Madison Renee Rowe, Tyler Michael Rowe, Maya Ashley Rowe, Mallory Grace Rowe, Taylor Elaine Green, Shelby Renee (Muzo) Demirtas; great granddaughter Kylar Rae Hug.; siblings Frederick (Susan) Horsley, Judith Gibbons, Karen (Arnold) Pieper, Bonnie Kirkbride, Kristyne (Joe) Grayson, Douglas Horsley, Andrew Horsley, Julie Browning.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses who cared for Dixie over the years, especially Dr. Charles Carter Sr. and Dr. Elisabeth Von Der Lohe.
