Wintfard's Story

Text size

Wintfard "Wink" James White, Sr. was born to Noah & Mary (Smith) White in Silva, Missouri. He was born in a log cabin in Silva and his family moved to Decker, Indiana when he was 3 months old, but he always considered Silva to be his home.
The family moved to Indianapolis when he was in his teens where he attended Arsenal Tech High School. This is where he met the love of his life, Martena A. Smith. They were married January 24, 1953 and shortly after he was drafted into the Army where he served in Korea for 2 years. When he returned home he worked for Dohrn Transfer Trucking Company / Hall's Trucking until his retirement. He cared for Martena in their home in New Winchester, Indiana until her passing February 8, 1997. In 2004 he moved back to Silva, Missouri where he was a member of the Crusin For The Son Kustom Car Club of Wayne County, Missouri. He was a member of the Open Word Pentacostal Church in Patterson, Missouri, where his funeral was held on March 25. Ironically this was Martena's birthday.
He loved visiting with his many relatives and friends and frequently dined with his 5 lady friends as well as his many other friends. He loved eating out at the Fishin' Hole & Kin Folks, in Greenville and the Zephyr in Piedmont where they were always ready with his cup of coffee. He attended the Blue Diamond Auction in Piedmont every weekend where he purchased many gifts for family and friends. He always had a toy for the kids and a treat for the dogs, whether he knew them or not. He would attend family reunions in the area even if they were not his family in hopes to find more relatives, which he found many! He traveled home to Indiana regularly to visit his many family & friends. He was an avid collector of novelty knives and American Indian collectibles and caps.
He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his son, Steve (Marie) White of Brownsburg, daughters, Martina "Tina" Tesmer of Danville, Penny (Terry) Willingham of Avon and brother, Eugene (Paula) White of St. Louis, MO. As well as daughter-in-law, Dixie White of Danville and son-in-law, John Tesmer of Bainbridge. Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Devon (Julia) & Melanie Pulliam, Wayne (Bev) Johnston, Shonda (Michael) Brewer, Suzi (Jason) Winings, Kim (Scott) Curran, Rebekah & Anthony White, Joe & Amy Willingham and 14 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martena, daughter, Terri and her husband David Asher, son, Wintfard "Bud" White, Jr., and brothers, Noah, William, Floyd, Jerry and Robert and 3 great grandchildren and several of his beloved pet dogs.
A memorial is planned in his honor for Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the home of John Tesmer, Bainbridge, IN, from 3:00 PM to 5:00m PM. All are welcome. We will be spreading his and Martena's ashes as they had planned so many years ago, in a place of importance to them.
