Vanita's Story

Vanita Margurette Staley, age 99 formally of Eminence, went to be with the Lord November 1st, 2017.
Born August 29th, 1918 in Martinsville, IN to the late Paul C. and Ruth P.(Rosenbalm)Johnson. She married Ivel B. Staley September 7th, 1935 and he preceded her in death on January 22, 2000.
Vanita moved to Eminence from Indianapolis with her Parents at the age of six and spent the rest of her life in the Eminence community. A member of the Eminence Baptist Church, she served in various offices, was a Junior class Sunday school teacher and was clerk of the church for many years.
She also served as clerk of the Whitelick American Baptist Association.
In recent years, she had attended First Baptist Church in Plainfield and
was active in the work of American Baptist Women. Mrs. Staley was a
50-year member, past Worthy Matron and past Secretary of Eminence Chapter #546 O.E.S. She was council Treasurer of the Martinsville Bethel of Job's Daughters when her daughters were active in that organization.
Mrs. Staley had traveled with her husband in all 50 states and 17 countries.
She is survived by her son Gary Staley; daughter Sandra Shuler; brother
Nick Johnson; 6 grandchildren, Kathy Jeffries Stroempl, Jeff Shuler, Dan Shuler, Mike Shuler, Joshua Staley, Jaymes Staley; 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary Shuler, Carson Shuler, Elyse Staley, Taryn Staley, Adrian Staley.
She is also preceded in death by husband Ivel Staley; daughter Sherrill
Jeffries; grandson Allen Jeffries; brother Ray Johnson.
Vanita wanted to give special thanks to Rosalie, Jim and Sarah Bolton for their loving assistance to her and Ivel in their older years.
Graveside services for Vanita will be at 2:00 pm November 11th, 2017 at
Stilesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, with an Eastern Star Service at 1:00 pm at Whitaker Funeral Home Cloverdale, IN.
