Stephen's Story

Text size

Stephen Douglas Mace Dodson, 65, died Monday, May 15, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. In eternity, he meets his wife, Inetta Sue Fortney Dodson, as well as his father and mother, Walter and Gladys Dodson. Stephen is survived by his siblings: Lillian D. Slater, Walter S. Dodson (and Linda), P.Z. Sinclair (and David), Suzanne Conger, and Tyler Dodson (and Angie) as well as nine nieces and nephews who love him dearly and on whom he doted all his life. Stephen was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, but he spent most of his life in Charleston, West Virginia. After their square dance wedding in the summer of 1994, Stephen and Inetta were married for 20 years. He was a 1970 graduate of George Washington High School and a 1974 graduate of Morris Harvey College, both in Charleston, West Virginia. Stephen was a Registered Nurse with 41 years of service. Most of his nursing career was at Charleston Memorial Hospital where he treated his patients in the Critical Care and Intensive Care Units with compassion. He retired on July 23, 2015, telling everyone that on his first day off he would probably go hit golf balls. Stephen was passionate about his golfing, and was known as "Doddle" to his golf buddies, "The Buzzards" and "Tres Amigos." These groups traveled to many different venues to golf while enjoying each other's company. Stephen's other passion was his animals, and he leaves behind his sweet German Shepherd/Lab mix girl Sheba and his loving silver cat, Blue Boy. There will be a private ceremony at the Avon United Methodist Church Columbarium in Avon, Indiana, where his remains will be interred. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, make a donation to your local animal rescue organization in Stephen's name. Online guestbook at www.matthewsmortuary.com
