The family of Robert Franklin Ware of Avon wishes to report his death June 14th at age 74 at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis after a prolonged and extensive illness that saw him repeatedly defy long odds with a fighting spirit and tenacity of purpose that, in addition to being well known by his friends, acquaintances, family members, and business associates, animated all his endeavors.
Bob was a loving father and husband, a loyal friend, a faithful ally, and a tough opponent. All those who knew him will attest that his death leaves a void that only fond memories of his generosity and lively wit can fill.
Born in Simpson, WV at home on September 4, 1942, to the late Charles Newton Ware and Daisy Opal (Apperson) Ware, he is survived by his wife of 45 years Pamela Rose (Hathaway) Ware and son Christopher Robert Ware of Avon, brother Charles Willard Ware and sister Adra Anna (Ware) Gray, both of Flemington, WV, and daughter Patricia Ware. He was preceded in death by another son, Robert Craig Ware, in 1984.
Bob's interests, activities, and accomplishments were numerous and wide ranging. He was a lifelong businessman, both at the corporate and entrepreneurial levels. He worked variously for Purolator Courier, Emery Worldwide, and Consolidated Freightways, rising from delivery driver to the highest divisions of corporate life. He formed and ran several small businesses, serving as tavern proprietor, pool room owner, doughnut and snack distributor, and nursing home supplier. He was an athlete, hunter, fisherman, gambler, and sports and politics enthusiast. Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies organization after graduating Flemington (WV) High School, he instead entered the U.S. Army, and was particularly proud of his service at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Widely traveled, he most enjoyed his annual elk hunting and fishing trips, and was as well acquainted with the geography of the Rocky Mountain West as he was of his home terrain. He was a patriot and old school citizen, regarding commitment to family as his most solemn obligation, and he will be deeply missed by friends and loved ones.
A memorial service will be held to honor his memory at his interment this fall in Taylor County, WV.
