Margaret (Peg) Helen (Stewart) Howard, 73, died peacefully at her daughter's home on January 22, 2017 in Albany, Wisconsin after a short battle with cancer.
Peg was born in Indianapolis to Helen (Vaughn) Stewart and Ralph Stewart on August 31, 1943. When Peg was 8 years old she moved with her parents and Grandma Vaughn to Corpus Christi, Texas where she lived until attending college at Texas Women's University in Denton where she received her teaching degree.
After college Peg taught third grade in Corpus Christi for three years before moving back to Indiana to teach. Peg was hired to teach at Central Elementary in Plainfield as a third grade teacher. She earned her Master of Education from Butler University. Peg would complete her teaching career at Central Elementary after 36 total years of teaching. She loved teaching, the children and the camaraderie of her peers that she regarded as family.
On February 4 , 1978 she married Rev. Willis R. Howard at The Church by the Side of the Road where he was a minister. She stepped up to the challenge of being a dedicated and hardworking minister's wife and considered the people of the church her family. She continued to be an active and vital part of the church after her husband's death and up to her recent illness.
In marrying Willis, she became a mother, eventually a grandmother and great grandmother. She was also a caregiver for her cousin for many years. She loved her time with her family and they were blessed by her care and love for them.
Peg was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Peg is survived by her children Colleen (Dave) Lehman of Noblesville, Barry (Paula) Howard of Indianapolis, Fairy (Steve) Elmer of Albany, Wisconsin; her cousins, Sharon Schanz of Indianapolis, Sandy Kelley of Brownsburg and Bill Vaughn of Monticello; her Aunt Lola Mae Gomez of Pensacola, Florida; her grandchildren Shawn (Kristi) Howard, Cathy (Robert) Kitchens, Emily Elmer, Jacob Elmer, Noah Fuller, Hannah Fuller and Stephanie (Tyler) Roelle; and seven great grandchildren, Lindsay and Ian Howard, Madelyn, Caleb, Katelyn, Caeden Kitchens and Charlie Roelle.
