BROWNSBURG, Ind. Helen M. Snodgrass, age 96, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, knowing that she would soon be walking those streets of gold in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born September 27, 1921, in Winchester, Indiana, to Merle and Alta Rickard Hinshaw, Helen lived in Richmond for most of her life. After graduating from Winchester High School, she worked at Anchor Hocking. Helen married Donald Snodgrass and moved to Richmond for several years. Purchasing a farm south of New Paris, Ohio, she became a homemaker where she was known for canning 80 to 100 quarts of green beans and tomatoes in one day from the large garden that her husband planted. Writing letters to cheer up others was another of her favorite pastimes. Helens favorite place to be was at church worshiping God. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Richmond for over 65 years. Helen loved attending Bethesda Baptist Church when she and Donald moved to Brownsburg in 2000 to be near their daughter and her family. She loved singing hymns and sang in the Nazarene choir many years ago.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice (Jim) Defibaugh of Brownsburg, Indiana; granddaughter, Jennifer (Michael) Weslotsky of Brownsburg, Indiana; sister-in-law, Phyllis Lovell of Winchester, Indiana; nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald V. Snodgrass who died November 29, 2003; a stillborn son; parents; and brothers, James and Howard Hinshaw and Riley Lovell Jr.
We wish to thank Wellbrooke of Avon assisted living and Brownsburg Health Care for the wonderful care they gave Helen in her final years, months, and weeks.
