Gordon A. Hobbs Gordon A. Hobbs, 91, of Avon, passed away September 13, 2018. He was born May 13 1927 to the late Fred and Helen (Jones) Hobbs in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Horticulture in 1949, and a Masters in Plant Pathology in 1950. He was an US Army veteran of the Korean War. He owned and operated Hobbs Nursery, which has its roots and was established in 1812 in Salem, IN. Later in 1875 they moved to Bridgeport, IN. It became a 400 bare root and B&B operation until downsizing to a 15 acre re-wholesale yard in 2002. They sold the business to Larry Becker, Becker Landscape, in February 28, 2006.
Gordon is survived by his wife Norma Lee (Blanchard) Hobbs; a son, David Blake (Sally) Hobbs; two daughters, Sherry Lynn (Ken) Treesh, and Leslie Carol Hobbs-Ramsey; a step-son, Cantrall (Melissa) Coffey; 6 step-daughters, Sherri Jo (Keith) Crossland, Theresa (Mike) Gibbs, Elaine Taylor, Patricia (Steve) Callis), Nancy (Jim) Miller, and Lori Coffey; a brother, Tom Hobbs; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, J.W. Ramsey. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in the First Baptist Church of Plainfield at 1012 Stafford Road, Plainfield, and where friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm in the church. A private inurnment were held, with military honors, earlier at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Hospice, 8935 N.
