Dorothy's Story

Dorothy Mae Sutphin Edens, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully from this life after a short hospital stay on Tuesday January 16, 2018, in Spokane, Washington, where she resided for the past few years with her son Mark and his family. She was 86. Dorothy was born to the late Chalmers and Thurza Sutphin on October 29, 1931, in Mars Hill, Indiana. After graduating Decatur Central High School in 1949, Dorothy was employed at Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis where she met her eventual husband, the late J. Gayle Edens.
Preceding Dorothy in death were siblings Paul Gabhart, Keith Gabhart, Lillie Gabhart Williams, Ruby Gabhart Lair and Jean Sutphin Davis. Dorothy is survived by siblings Frieda Sutphin Coman, Pauline Sutphin Jones and Earl Sutphin. She is also survived by sons Doug Edens(Jody), Jeff Edens(Debbie) and Mark Edens(Beth), grandchildren Matthew Edens, Joseph Edens, Jacob Edens, LeLyne Edens Joyner, Dayna Edens and Lindsey Edens and 10 great grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church. Hennessey Funeral Home in Spokane will handle final arrangements including cremation.
