Charles's Story

Charles E. Martin, of Indianapolis, passed away Dec. 20 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
He was born Oct. 21, 1930, in Connersville, the son of Woodford and Mary (Hackleman) Martin, who preceded him in death.
On Sept. 5, 1953, he married Lois J. Gansert, who survives him. He is also survived by his four daughters, Donna Kimpel, Gayle Jones, Karen (Terry) Pennington and Linda (Bob) Lutes; sister, JoAnn Foti, 16 grandchildren, 200 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Also preceding him in death were sister, Martha Parker; brothers, Ivan and Lee; and grandson, Robert Jones.
Charles was an active, long-time member of Ben Davis Christian Church, a 50-year member of Bridgeport Masonic Lodge #162 and a Scottish Rite Murat Shriner.
he enjoyed his family first and many hours of volunteering at the church, fishing, woodworking and fossil collecting.
Services will be at Conkle Funeral Home in Avon with visitation from 4-8 p.m. Dec. 29 and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 30 with interment at Washington Park North.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name at Ben Davis Christian Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
