Charles Riley Austin (Charlie), 87, Brownsburg, passed quietly at his home of 57 years on May 29, 2017 surrounded by his family. Charlie was born January 6, 1930 in Jamestown, ND where he lived and worked until he moved to Brownsburg in 1959 to work as an Air Route Traffic Controller for 30 years.
He served in the US Army in Korea in 1951 and with the North Dakota National Guard. He was a 48 year member of Brownsburg American Legion Post 331 and a life member of VFW Post 1111 of Mooresville.
He loved family time, helping friends, hunting, camping, boating, RV travel and coached Little League Baseball and youth football in Brownsburg. He was also an avid and successful salmon and steelhead fisherman and made trips to Alaska and Oregon to pursue his passion.
He was preceded in death by his mother Hattie E. Austin and a grandchild, Jeremy Maxwell.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Louisa M (Fields) and six children who loved him dearly; Jane (Duane) Mercier of Indianapolis; Karen Osborne, Speedway, IN; Lynne (Daniel) Sloan, Everett, WA; Michael Austin, Speedway, IN; Alane (Steven) Moore, Naples, FL and Timothy (Rosemarie) Austin, Ashland, OR.
Survivors also include grandchildren, Jason Sowder, Angie Van Brocklin, Jennifer Muey, Austin Sloan, Peter and Danielle Austin, Ryan and Jeff Moore, Andrea Sellmeyer, Izabel, Emelia and Samuel Austin, and 8 great grandchildren.
There will be no formal funeral ceremony. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Arrangements made with Lynhurst Neighborhood Funeral Home.
